JANESVILLE PERFORMING ARTS CENTER ANNOUNCES NEW ORIGINAL PLAY ABOUT MENTAL HEALTH/SUICIDE PREVENTION
Janesville, WI— This August the Janesville Performing Arts Center (JPAC) will be producing an original play inspired by mental health and suicide prevention in Rock County. Local playwright, Jim Lyke, who wrote last year’s piece about homelessness has met with representatives from the community and NAMI to pen his latest play. Although the play is fiction it is inspired by real stories and real events conveyed during hours of interviews with local leaders who provide mental health and suicide prevention services in the area.
The play will be directed by JPAC Executive Director, Nathan Burkart. Burkart, a native from Janesville, was a professional actor and director in Los Angeles, CA for over eight years. He holds a BFA in musical theatre from Webster Conservatory in St. Louis and has worked as a theatre professional in Wisconsin, Illinois, St. Louis, New York and Los Angeles. He has worked with a large array of artists ranging from Adam Sandler to Edward Albee. “Jim did an outstanding job last year with his play THERE’S NO PLACE. We are thrilled to bring back a second installment to this series that hopefully brings awareness and light to a very relevant and serious topic to the Janesville/Rock County community. It is through this type of work that JPAC demonstrates its ability to use theatre as a vehicle for deeper conversations that benefit people from both inside and outside the local theatre community.” Says Burkart.
Auditions for WHEN I GO will be held at the Janesville Performing Arts Center on Wednesday June 12th with possible callbacks occurring on Friday June 14th. Please email Executive Director, Nathan Burkart, at email@example.com to schedule an audition time between 5pm-9pm. There are male and female roles available for ages 16-60. Actors will read scenes from the script.
WHEN I GO will run Thursday August 22nd- August 25th. Shows will be at 7:30pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday and 2:00pm on Sunday. Tickets will be $15 for adults and $12 for students.
